Microscopic Testicular Sperm Extraction (Micro-TESE)
Micro-TESE is the microsurgical retrieval of sperm directly from the testicles. This is a treatment for male factor infertility caused by the absence of sperm, azoospermia, in the semen due to very low or no sperm production.
Micro-TESE involves an operation performed through a small midline incision in the scrotum, through which one or both testicles can be seen. Our urologist surgeons examines the testicles under the microscope, which provides up to 20x magnification, in search of small areas of testicular tissue which are dilated and therefore more likely to contain sperm. Our surgeon then removes these areas, and we examine them in our laboratory for the presence of sperm.
Prior to Micro TESE, our urologist will provide a consultation whether or not to recommend if this procedure is likely to succeed in obtaining sperm in your particular case.
