Co-Culture

Co-Culture

Co-culture is a medium to improve the quality and implantation of embryos. Co-culture is a procedure whereby “helper” cells are grown along with the developing embryo.  Endometrial co-culture is a technique utilized to promote normal embryo development and thereby increase a patient’s chance of establishing a healthy pregnancy.  For co-culture the endometrial cells are collected by our doctor and these cells are grown and frozen in our laboratory for later use.  Then these cells are thawed prior to retrieval of eggs.  Then these cultured uterine cells are placed in the Petri dish with the embryo(s) resulting from an IVF cycle, where they support embryonic development until embryo transfer or cryopreservation.

Endometrial co-culture is an effective supplement to IVF in certain circumstances, including patients who have had multiple failed IVF cycles or with previous poor embryo quality.
